About the book

What is Experiments in Murder about?

It is a dark crime thriller narrated by Harry Fisher, a wealthy, gifted interpreter from Lancaster who treats murder as a series of experiments, and plants the evidence so that other men are convicted for his crimes. The story moves from Lancaster and the southern Lake District to Moscow and Siberia. Read the full synopsis.

Is the book suitable for all readers?

No. Experiments in Murder is written for adults (18+). It is narrated by a killer and contains:

  • graphic violence, torture and gore
  • explicit sexual content
  • references to sexual abuse, including of children, and to human trafficking
  • drug use
  • strong language throughout

If you are sensitive to any of these themes, please read the free sample first.

Is it based on a true story?

No. It is a work of fiction. The novel is set in real places and its narrator refers to real historical cases and forensic breakthroughs, but its characters and crimes are fictional.

Is Harry Fisher really named after the author's dog?

Yes. Vince Smith named his main character after Harry, his very demanding springerpoo. And as Vince says, being a little too honest is where any similarity between him and his character ends.

Without giving anything away: the novel ends on a cliffhanger.
